Podcast Scripts

Hey guys!
I thought we could each post our podcast scripts here since it's part of the assignment.

Here's mine:

Good Morning Parents,
Ms. Merrit, Mr. Isch, and I, Ms. Root, want to keep you informed of what's happening in our classroom, so we've decided to create this podcast to reach out to you all in another form of communication.
As a teaching team, we've decided to use project-based learning, or PBL, as to move away from traditional teaching, and move towards a new vision of instructional design.  PBL allows us to take advantage of digital tools for inquiry, collaboration, and communication to connect learners to one another, or, even to the world beyond this classroom.  Instead of the teachers being the content experts, PBL enables the students to take on this role.
Our project, which we will explain shortly, will create memorable learning experiences because it lets the students explore their chosen topic in multiple medias, which teaches research skills, collaboration with their peers, decision making skills, hands-on creating, as well as presenting skills.
The students have chosen their topic of birding, and will come up with ways to research in order to put their big project together.
Now we will explain what has been going on in our classroom so far.

While completing our unit on birding, we will be using strategies that help us work better in a community. Our goal as teachers is to provide the best learning experience possible for each student. We as teachers feel that by making use of our communities, we can use our time and resources to their full potential. We have a shared vision during this unit which has been discussed through an open line of communication. Students in this unit will learn all about their local birds through a series of hands on activities. One activity in particular has students exchanging information with a student in a different state to get an idea of how different birds can be from state to state. Students will learn why our local birds chose this state to live in. Our shared vision during this unit will allow us to keep steady pacing as well as hold one another accountable for all of the learning that will take place during this great unit.

  2. My peers and I have already completed many tasks in order to ensure success within our classroom. To begin brainstorming we created a concept map to basically organize our thoughts and ideas for birding. The major subtopics include bird logs, bird feeders, equipment needed, and sectioned land for habitat. ; which bring the entire unit together. We also explored several different websites that will provide information and generate ideas for our project. One of the major aspects of our project includes incorporating virtual penpals from a 5th grade California classroom in order to compare characteristics within the birds found in both habitats through the process of observing. In addition, Mr. Isch , Ms. Root and I have created individual lesson plans to complete with the students. My personal lesson plan consists of observing birds eating preferences by hanging different feeders outside of our classroom after completing research. In order to keep the students actively engaged we have researched numerous amounts of virtual field trips that our classroom will explore. The field trips are meant for the children to experience places that they may never visit. In all there has been a great amount of effort put forth towards our project on birding.

  3. Hey Amber,
Just wondering if you could send me your podcast portion in mp3 format soon? I only have a couple hours to work on things for today. If you need longer though, I can send you what we have so far, music included, and then you could just add your part in. Up to you!
